sew, who do you like?

Dawn here : just drooling over some fabric designers...well not the designers, but their lovely designs....some of my fave's are;
  • Amy Butler (obviously)
  • Robert Kaufman
  • Kirsten James (who has a lovely fabric called Charcoal Bonsai - in the lead for the headboard fabric)
  • Michael Miller

OR the great debate is to do the headboard plain...3 more sleeps til my machine arrives! Then Becky can give me the low-down on bobbin winding etc. It's been more years than I can count!

Seamstress D here...very IMPATIENTLY awaiting my sewing machine. I'm going to rock the same beauty that Becky is. In the meantime, I'm making a list, checking it twice, ensuring that my sewing chest is chock full & ready for my first big project, which is...........sigh. Still waiting for the machine to arrive.

Step one:

Hey friends! So Seamstress B here reporting in. I had some time with my new Kenmore machine and thought I would fill you in. I had to laugh when I realized I had to thread it and wind the bobbin ect..."I have to what?" but success was mine! So I looked around the house for a scrap to practice a few simple stitches on. Here are a few pictures to illustrate my first moments of threaded bliss:

This is my first 90 degree turn done on my new baby :)

I have been picking out fabrics and found sheets at a discount store that I will attempt to make a table runner from. Will I concur my first project?

Hey there friend bloggers, I'm Brokeshopaholic and I'm a guest blogger this evening. Truth be told, I can't sew. I paid someone in grade 8 to do my Home Ec projects. When I was pregnant with my daughter my then husband gave me a sewing machine and I did a few maternity dresses and a few cute outfits for my girl. I just don't have the patients. But, I did want to share with you all, my sewing machine, that my mom and dad gave me two Christmas' ago (very special to me as my father ordered it from Sears himself and he died a few days later). I haven't had the heart to use it yet; but I will! Especially with my two lovely friends Dawn and Becky. It's strictly for cardmaking though!

first things first...

sewing chests! the kind your mom used to have...I bought one for soon-to-be-seamstress-B for her birthday, a lovely little antique sewing cabinet, that she will be posting pics of soon (coughcough) and of course i got one for myself...

still researching what kind of sewing machine is best!, oh good grief, where does one begin? one step buttonholers, digital this, digital that, basic stitching, decorative stitiching, auto thread functions? WHAT? Janome? Brother? Singer?

your advice please!
